In Canada, over 60 indigenous languages are spoken by First Nations, Inuit and Métis people. Sadly, many of these languages are at risk of disappearing. According to a recent report by UNESCO, more than half of the world's 6000+ languages are expected to go extinct by the end of this century. This is a devastating prospect, as each language contains unique knowledge and perspectives that are essential to the cultural heritage of humanity. Thankfully, there are projects like The DREAMCATCHERS endeavouring to preserve these endangered languages. The DREAMCATCHERS is produced by JerryCo Animation, North America’s first indigenous-owned and operated animation studio that works with Indigenous communities across Canada to create and distribute language learning materials. Through their efforts, they are helping to ensure that Canada's native tongues will be passed down from generation to generation.
