Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is divided into five stages, which are based on eGFR test results and how well your kidneys work to filter waste and extra fluid from your blood. As the stages progress, kidney disease gets worse, and your kidneys are less able to work properly. That is why it is important at each stage to take steps to slow down damage to your kidneys.
