IMTS 2022 Emerging Technology Center – Giant Magellan Telescope: Traditional Manufacturing Advancing Breakthrough Science
The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) currently under construction in Chile, is a marvel of traditional manufacturing supporting and advancing breakthrough scientific studies. The GMT is the largest Gregorian optical-infrared telescope in history and uses seven of the world's largest mirrors to see farther into space than ever before. The GMT showcases traditional manufacturing, as seen through the construction of the eight-story base for the telescope by Ingersoll Machine Tools, Inc., along with extraordinary scientific breakthroughs in its mirror construction and software programs.
