With the onset of COVID-19, and the inability to travel to conferences and to meet with donors/supporters, we needed a thoughtful and meaningful way to show our audiences we were thinking about them, concerned about their needs, and wanted to stay connected. Facial masks proved to be an effective way to show that support and keep the Foundation in front of our audiences.
We distributed masks through the mail as part of gift packets to encourage a sustained connection to the Foundation during a difficult year and delivered in person where and when we could. We also used masks as a thank you gift to our participants in the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. The strategy was to keep our name and our logo literally in front of people and use that to encourage conversations with others who might notice the logo on the mask (which happened frequently).
After our first distribution of 1,000 masks, we immediately placed another order because demand was so strong. We had many individuals who received the masks reach out to say thank you, and to share their stories about guerilla marketing the Foundation by wearing their masks when out in public and sharing information about the Foundation.
