The ACAMS Today magazine is a quarterly publication for career-minded professionals in the financial crime detection and prevention fields and it is an exclusive benefit for ACAMS members. The ACAMS Today is dedicated to keeping members up to date on the latest anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing challenges, legislative, regulatory and international developments in financial crime prevention and practical solutions to compliance problems.
Our cover story for this edition highlighted how the traditional money laundering method of money muling—when someone transfers or moves illicit funds on behalf of criminals—has evolved in the digital age of the 21st century. As criminals shift to e-crimes, their pool of recruits to do their dirty work has expanded to anyone with an internet connection. Hence the mules in different attire, genders and age groups on the cover. Today, a money mule can be an elderly woman you pass on the street, a teenager on the other side of the country or even a businessman on the other side of the world. The cover is formatted like a cartoon PSA, similar to the ghostbusters’ logo. The various mules, and the money they have moved, are being held back by a red circle with a line across, warning financial institutions to keep them out of their businesses.
Cover uses matte paper with spot varnish to enhance the recruits who are trying to break into your financial institution to commit crimes.
