'Angels Among Us' Washington Gas Gala Speech

On Sept. 27, 2023, Washington Gas hosted a "Party With a Purpose" gala at the National Cathedral to benefit the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) initiative. This speech was prepared as part of a collection of collaterals to support the event.

Washington Gas is proud of our long history of being there for the DMV. From the first gas lights at the White House in 1848 to serving 1.2 million customers in 2023, our company’s history is interwoven with that of our nation’s capital. Across our 175 years, we have seen how change drives innovation, and we are proud to help lead the way toward a future of exciting energy options. While many things may evolve, we always remember why we do what we do: to improve life in the city where we work, live and serve.

As part of this ongoing call to action, we founded the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) in 1983 to help families warm their homes even when other assistance is unavailable. In the past 40 years, over 308,000 individuals have received over $33 million in home-heating aid. Because Washington Gas covers all administrative fees, every donated dollar goes directly to a household in need.
