Illinois politics are known for corruption, from major scandals to everyday issues that impact all its citizens. Some of these laws and government actions can seriously make you want to flip a table over Real Housewives style. Our goal was to convert this outrage into something productive that would empower people instead of making them want to give up.
We decided to channel that rage into comedy. We created the series Can you Belive this F---ing $#*t! In each short video, we enlist the help of an actor (who plays a caricature of a stereotypical Chicagoan) to break down a single issue.
We create these videos quickly in order to capitalize on public interest in timely issues. For example, Chicago imposed a sugary drink tax called the Pop Tax. We quickly made a CYBTFS video explaining exactly what that means when a Chicagoan tries to buy a can of soda. A $2 can of soda quickly turns into $3. A similar tax even applies to water. Our video breaks down how taxes on a $2 drink add up to $1 in a humorous and entertaining way. This helps to combat and clarify confusing news coverage littered with percentages and abstract implications that often fail to explain confusing laws to the everyday person. This Pop Tax was quickly overturned, and of course we made a video about that too.
