Yeo’s Journey at Cheddar Gorge & Caves
Revenant had the unique opportunity to create an immersive experience within Cox’s Cave at Cheddar Gorge and Caves in Somerset, England. Tasked with reimagining the narrative, we conceptualised, scripted, and animated an elegant natural history story titled ‘Yeo’s Journey: The Power of Water.’ This experience takes visitors on a journey through time, revealing how the mighty River Yeo carved this geological wonder. Collaborating with audio-visual specialists DJW, we used animation and lighting to craft a beautiful and unforgettable experience.
The project is divided into nine distinct zones within the cave, each with key narrative points. Yeo, the main character, ties the entire experience together. We created visuals that complement the cave's natural rock surfaces and keep viewers engaged. The technical challenges of projecting onto cave walls and stalagmites were addressed by 3D scanning the entire cave system. This allowed us to plan and execute the journey with precision, ensuring the animation seamlessly integrated with the environment.
The storyboarding process ensured each zone's pacing allowed visitors to move seamlessly from one section to the next. Our ultimate goal was to craft a meaningful and enduring experience, engaging visitors with the captivating narrative and enhancing their sense of wonder and awe. The result is an immersive, fun, and thought-provoking experience that brings the ancient tale of the River Yeo to life in a way that is both technically impressive and narratively captivating.
