Mayo Alumni Magazine is a quarterly publication connecting more than 37,000 Mayo Clinic alumni across 83 countries. Each issue celebrates the institution’s dedication to advancing patient care through innovation, education, and collaboration.
Issue 3, 2025 explores the concept of “bench to bedside” — how scientific discovery translates into real-world healing. The issue highlights groundbreaking advancements in transplant medicine, regenerative research, 3D modeling, and interventional radiology, illustrating the full journey from early lab exploration to improved patient outcomes.
McGuffin Creative Group’s creative direction focused on revealing the continuum of research and care with clarity, warmth, and sophistication. The cover illustration, created by artist Spooky Pooka, visualizes the connection between science and humanity in a playful way with a rendered model kit representing the patient journey and the medical innovations that have impacted them in their care.
Inside the issue, McGuffin blended cinematic photography, conceptual illustration, and scientific imagery to bring complex innovations to life. Each story is paired with a 3D rendered image that connects to the story and seamlessly ties the issues articles together. A mix of candid portraits of clinicians and researchers are paired with atmospheric shots of labs and procedures, immersing readers in the environments where Mayo’s breakthroughs begin.
Printed in an oversized 12.5 x 9 format on uncoated Accent Opaque stock with vibrant UV inks, the magazine’s tactile depth reinforces its premium feel. Through storytelling and design, Issue 3, 2025 celebrates Mayo’s legacy of translating research into care — affirming that at Mayo Clinic, innovation always begins and ends with the patient.
