George and his husband Mark purchased (and renovated) a historic property in Provincetown, Massachusetts that they wanted to offer up as a vacation rental. In addition to boasting a stunning ocean view the property also claims a fascinating history as the previous residence of New England’s only female pirate (Rachel Wall). Our branding work needed to embody the high-end sophistication of the home and the amenities it offers while also capturing the soothing joy and contentment of having a romantic, beach-side vacation. George told us: “Our vision is ‘come to paradise and find your treasures in the dunes.’” We explored a number of different concepts that pulled inspiration from a variety of areas like 70’s travel Americana, traditional New England coastal style, Victorian woodblock prints, as well as ways to communicate a deep connection with the area’s queer community without just making the logo rainbow-colored. Ultimately, George and Mark decided that they would tell their personal story (about coming together, working on the space, etc.) on their website to position themselves and their rental as LGBTQIA friendly, keeping the logo as visually simple as possible.
