Working on the Crisol: Theater of Idols release date trailer was a uniquely rewarding experience for all of us at Layer. Right from the start, we wanted to create something that honored the game’s rich Spanish cultural influence while also leaning into the creeping horror and dread that define its identity. It was about finding the heart of the story and expressing it in a way that feels both authentic and chilling.
Visually, we leaned into motifs, colors, and textures that evoke a sense of place - drawing on cultural elements that give Crisol its distinctive flavor. At the same time, we paired those moments with unsettling imagery and unexpected shifts, giving the viewer a sense that something beautiful can also be deeply unsettling.
The editing was crafted to build atmosphere gradually, celebrating the cultural influence with pride, then letting tension subtly rise until it becomes impossible to ignore. Sound design played a major role in that transition too, blending vibrant audio cues with haunting undertones that mirror the game’s dual nature.
Our goal was to create a trailer that feels like an invitation into a world that’s rich with heritage but alive with dread. Seeing all those elements come together - culture, story, and fear - was incredibly fun and rewarding, and we hope it gives players a taste of the experience that awaits.
