About The Entry
Working on the Eyes of Hellfire reveal trailer was an incredible opportunity for all of us at Layer to push into mood and tension in a way that really sticks with you. From the outset, we treated the trailer like a slow‑burn nightmare - something that creeps up on you, builds dread, and then hits hard before you even realize it.
The editing played a huge role in that. Instead of a rapid barrage of scary moments, we opted for a pacing that lets tension simmer - lingering on unsettling visuals just long enough to make you feel uneasy, and then cutting sharply when you least expect it. It’s a delicate balance, but it helps turn brief glimpses into something much more haunting and memorable.
Sound design was equally important. Subtle audio cues, atmospheric undertones, and carefully placed silence all work together to amplify that rising sense of dread. And when you layer in the vocal performance, which carries both vulnerability and foreboding, the trailer begins to feel like a descent into something truly terrifying.
In a short span of time, the trailer had to do more than show imagery - it had to make you feel the horror that the game promises. Seeing all those elements coalesce into something visceral and immersive was incredibly rewarding, and we’re thrilled with how the final piece evokes that creeping fear and curiosity in equal measure.
